Lessons That Last Forever

flower fadesEver wonder whether your kids will take on board what you teach them? – Lessons that last forever?

Do you want to make a lasting impression in your parenting? homeschooling? or just in life?

The only tangible thing that I have found, in this life, that lasts – really lasts – is

…….God’s Words

When you take a Word from God and plant it in your child, marriage, friendships… whatever – it grows!

Isaiah 40:8 (AMP) The grass wither, the flower fades, but the word of our God will stand forever.

Isn’t it worth our while to spend the majority of our time teaching something that will last forever?

I welcome your comments – How are you using God’s Words to make a lasting impact on your life?

How to have successful kids

Teach your children to treasure God’s Word

Gaining a reward for our actions is always a good motivator. Did you know that God promised a reward for those who value His Word?

Psalm 19 v 7-11 NIV
The law of the Lord is perfect, reviving the soul.
The statutes of the Lord are trustworthy, making wise the simple. The precepts of the Lord are right, giving joy to the heart. The commands of the Lord are radiant, giving light to the eyes. The fear of the Lord is pure, enduring forever. The ordinances of the Lord are sure and altogether righteous. They are more precious than gold, than much pure gold; they are sweeter than honey, than honey from the comb. By them is your servant warned; in keeping them there is great reward.

From this passage we see awesome results (or rewards) from valuing God’s Word.

God’s Words…

  • revives the soul
  • makes a simple person wise
  • gives joy to the heart
  • gives light to the eyes
  • gives warnings
  • brings a GREAT REWARD

God’s Words are PRECIOUS – there is a great reward in treasuring them!

Do we regard God’s Word as more precious than gold? Do we consider the Bible as more important and more valuable than learning multiplication tables or doing chores?

I don’t know about you, but sometimes I feel that I have to have the chores done before we sit down and do anything else. I have to ask myself whether I treat God’s Word with as much importance as the chores.

There are other passages in the Bible that give us a promise of success if we meditate and obey God’s Word. It would be profitable to spend some time studying these. Psalm chapter 1 and Joshua chapter 1 both promise success for the person whose life is based on God’s Word.

Spend some time dwelling on these two passages. Think about it in connection to having success in home schooling and in your parenting. Share what you learn with your children and teenagers.

We want our children to be a success in life, don’t we? – God’s answer to success starts with His Word and a daily intake of it! It isn’t just reading it. It is a pondering of the meaning of the words, a desire to fully understand the implications of the words in your own life. It is discussing the words as a family and how to implement them.

Just-start-with-yourself

Don’t let this become daunting – just start where you are! I have to constantly remind myself to not fall into the pit of condemnation because I don’t do everything perfectly. Just start with yourself and God. Then start sharing with your children what you discover about God. You will probably find yourself naturally (without any effort) sharing your discoveries with your family.
